Zhongshe Flower Market (中社觀光花市花海) is one of the best flower markets in all of Taiwan because it has different types of flowers in bloom throughout the year. Also known as Houli Flower Farm or Chungshe Flower Garden, it is a popular place for visitors, especially couples, to do their photoshoots here. It is the ideal location for wedding photography!
But anyone can visit the flower farm and use the backdrops as props. They make excellent photo opportunities! And the flower farm in Taichung has over 6 hectares of different flowers, and there are always flowers blooming all four seasons.
I never thought I would enjoy visiting a flower farm, but I was blown away by all the different types of flowers in full bloom. I was thoroughly impressed with the farm’s arrangements and the variety of flowers.
And visiting the Taichung flower farm as a day trip from Taichung is super easy, even if you don’t have a car or scooter. I’ll show you exactly how you can get there by public transportation and have a fabulous day at this flower farm in Taiwan.

What is Zhongshe Flower Market
Zhongshe Flower Market is also known as Houli Flower Farm or Chungshe Flower Garden in different publications. So for clarity’s sake, I will refer to the flower farm as Zhongshe Flower Market (and also because that is how it is referred to in Google Maps).
The flower garden has a Flower Field Zone, where you will find over 6 hectares of flowers, and several types of flowers are in bloom throughout the year. Take a look at the chart below and see the different types of flowers at Zhongshe Flower Market and when they are in bloom.

One of the biggest highlights of this Taiwan flower farm is during tulip season. Every year from January to March, up to 300,000 tulip bulbs are in full bloom. It is quite a scene to see so many tulips – very similar to what you will find in the Netherlands. Zhongshe Flower Market is the only flower farm that succeeded in growing tulips in all of Taiwan.
Even though I couldn’t be at the flower farm in Taichung during tulip season, I was able to see many different types of flowers in full bloom during the fall. I was at the flower farm in October and here are some of the flowers I saw at the farm.

Photography backdrop zones around the flower farm in Taichung
One of the main features of Zhongshe Flower Market is the photography backdrop zones, where different props are used to set the stage for gorgeous photographs. As mentioned earlier, the flower farm is a popular spot for wedding photography. Many couples bring a professional photographer to take wedding photos.
Some of the backdrops include a wedding gown arch (how appropriate!), scenes that resemble “European fairy tale,” and many musical instruments, including a white piano placed in the middle of a lavender field.
And even there aren’t any props, the flowers themselves are amazing as backdrops. They make the perfect Instagram photo!

Other things you will find at Zhongshe Flower Market
Besides all the colourful flowers, there are a few other things that you can see at Zhongshe Flower Market.
There are several shaded areas with chairs and vending machines throughout the flower farm. The weather in Central Taiwan can be quite hot and taking photos all day can be quite tiring. These resting spots are quite welcoming, as the heat can be quite gruelling.
And there is a family fun park area where there are kiddie rides for small children.
The farm also grows other things besides flowers. I found these interesting squashes or pumpkins hanging from the trellises. The shape is somewhat unusual, which is why it caught my eye.
The flower farm also sells products. They sell seasonal flowers and potted plants. Plus, they sell gardening materials, flower vases and even fertilizer.

In the centre of the flower farm, there is a rather large pond where you can find many koi fishes swimming around the lily pads. You can even buy fish food from the coin-operated machine shaped like a fish!

On the way out, don’t forget to look for a little shop that sells honey products. You can learn about bees and honey (but in Chinese).

All-you-can-eat barbecue meal

There is also a barbecue zone on the premise, which is the largest indoor barbecue spot in central Taiwan. The barbecue zone can serve up to 800 people at the same time.
The restaurant has tables set up with all the barbecue equipment and utensils for a perfect meal.
It includes beef, pork, chicken, sausages, meatballs, dried tofu, seasonal vegetables, soup, noodles, tea, etc. Everything is fully self-served, and you can eat as much as you want.
For adults, it costs NT$350 per person (October to May) and NT$300 per person (June to September).
If there are fewer than four people, they will charge an extra NT$50 for using the cooking utensils. The additional fee isn’t a lot, so it might still be worthwhile for solo travellers. But remember, you only have 150 minutes from start to finish.
Moreover, if you dine at the restaurant, your fee includes admission to the Flower Fields Zone. So that means for NT$350, you can eat a great meal and visit the flower farm.
Are you including Zhongshe Flower Market to your Taichung itinerary?
I never thought I would have such a good time visiting a flower farm! It is not my usual go-to activity, but Zhongshe Flower Market is quite unique. I love how there are so many different flower fields and so many spots to take photos!
So if you are visiting Taichung, make sure to add Zhongshe Flower Market to your itinerary!

May 31, 2023 at 9:18 pmHi Jaz, I checked their website and it doesn’t mention if lavender is in bloom all year around. I went in October and there were lots. The flower market is open all year round so you can see other flowers there.
