Zhongshe Flower Market or Chungshe Flower Garden, is one of Central Taiwan’s most popular flower markets. With over six hectares of flowers blooming in all four seasons, it is no wonder that many visitors flock to flower fields at Zhongshe to take photos.
Besides the flower fields, the garden centre is popular for locals to buy plants. And there is even a barbecue zone for all-you-can-eat buffet.
And it is possible to visit this flower farm as a day trip from Taichung. Even if you don’t drive a car or ride a scooter, it is possible to take public transportation on your own and spend a few hours at the flower zone. In this post, I’ll show you how you can get to Zhongshe flower garden by yourself and what you can see at the flower market.

Here are a few more additional travel tips that you might find useful for going to Zhongshe Flower Market:
- Purchase a rechargeable smartcard called EasyCard or iPass. Either card is good for taking the public buses to Zhongshe Flower Market. Plus, you can use it for renting a Youbike.
- And if you don’t want to bother with public transportation, Uber is an excellent and cheap option. Download the Uber app and set up the app before you use the app. You will need a local phone number to set up.
Zhongshe Flower Market: Info and Location
Zhongshe Flower Market, also known as Chungshe Flower Garden, is located 28km north of Taichung City. The flower farm has three main areas: flower field zone, garden centre and barbecue zone.
Address: No. 469-13, Sanfeng Road, Houli District, Taichung City | Hours: 9am-6pm; barbeque area open until 9pm on Saturdays and Sundays
Admission for Flower Field Zone: NT$120 (April to December) and NT$150 (January to March) during tulip season
Website: Zhongshe Flower Market (but the website is mostly in Chinese)

How to get to Zhongshe Flower Market from Taichung
The easiest way to get to Zhongshe Flower Market is by taking the TRA train to Tai’an Station and then walking or riding a Youbke to the flower farm. Taxi or Uber is also an option.
TRA train + walk or Youbike
From Taichung Station, take the TRA train to Tai’an Station. The train ride is about 30 minutes and costs about NT$47. Then, walk 20 minutes west on Zhonghua East Road and turn left on Sanfeng Road and walk until you reach the main sign (see photo below).
Or you can rent a Youbike at Tai’an Station (south of the entrance) and ride six minutes to the flower market. There is a Youbike rental station near the entrance sign where you can return the bike.
Uber
Alternatively, take a cab or Uber at Tai’an Station or anywhere in Taichung.

Zhongshe Flower Market: Flower Field Zone
The flower field zone is the main highlight of Zhongshe Flower Market. It has six hectares of flowers and several types of flowers are in bloom throughout the year. Take a look at the chart below and see which flowers are at the flower fields and when they are in bloom.
Many people visit Zhongshe Flower Market from January to March because it is tulip season. Up to 300,000 tulip bulbs are in full bloom during this time. It is quite a scene to see so many tulips – very similar to what you will find in the Netherlands. Zhongshe Flower Market is the only flower farm that has succeeded in growing tulips in all of Taiwan.

Things to See at Zhongshe Flower Market
Flower Field Zone + Photography Backdrops
One of the main features of Zhongshe Flower Market is the photography backdrop zones, where different props are used to set the stage for gorgeous photographs. The flower farm is a popular spot for wedding photography and many couples bring a professional photographer to take wedding photos here.
Some of the backdrops include a wedding gown arch (how appropriate!), scenes that resemble “European fairy tale,” and many musical instruments, including a white piano placed in the middle of a lavender field.
And even there aren’t any props, the flowers themselves are amazing as backdrops. They make the perfect Instagram photo!

In the centre of the flower farm, there is a large pond where you can find many koi fishes swimming around the lily pads. You can even buy fish food from the coin-operated machine shaped like a fish.

All-you-can-eat Barbecue Meal
Zhongshe Flower Market also has a barbecue zone and it is Central Taiwan’s largest indoor barbecue spot. The barbecue zone can serve up to 800 people at the same time.
The restaurant has tables with all the barbecue equipment and utensils for a perfect meal.
As for food, it includes beef, pork, chicken, sausages, meatballs, dried tofu, seasonal vegetables, soup, noodles, tea, etc. Everything is fully self-served, and you can eat as much as you want.
For adults, it costs NT$400 per person. The fee includes 150 minutes of eating and the Flower Field Zone. If there are fewer than four people, they will charge an extra NT$80 for using the cooking utensils.
However, I’m not sure if this is worth trying for solo travellers. I saw many tables that were part of a large group and many people from day tours. I skipped this because I really can’t take advantage of all-you-can-eat buffets.

Other areas at Zhongshe Flower Market
Besides the flower field zone, there are other areas around Zhongshe Flower Market:
- Garden Centre – near the entrance is where you can find different garden products for sale. There are seasonal flowers, potted plants, gardening materials, flower vases, fertilizers and much more.
- Vegetable Garden – I found these interesting squashes or pumpkins hanging from the trellises. The shape is somewhat unusual, which is why it caught my eye.
- Family Fun Park Area – small kiddie rides for children.
- Honey Store – you can learn about bees and honey (but in Chinese) and buy honey.

Is Zhongshe Flower Market worth visiting as a solo traveller
I visited Zhongshe Flower Market twice (in October 2019 and December 2024), and they were pretty similar both times. The photo backdrops were the same, but the flowers were different. I had a blast during my first time but I feel like it wasn’t as fun during my last visit. Perhaps it is because I’ve been before, so I didn’t see anything new?! And different flowers bloom in different months?!
If it is your first time going to the flower market, spending a few hours from Taichung and seeing the flower fields might be worth it especially if you have never seen flower fields.
But to be honest, Zhongshe Flower Market is just okay. I think it is more of a place for locals to buy gardening material. And day tours bring in a lot of people so it could be crowded at times.
I would much rather visit the Xinshe Sea of Flowers because of the elaborate flower displays, and each year, it is a different theme so it is always different each year. But it is only open from November to December.

Hi, Sorry if you get this all of a sudden. I would like to ask if ZongShe Flower Market has Lavender all year around? if not, how about in late November, beginning December?
Hi Jaz, I checked their website and it doesn’t mention if lavender is in bloom all year around. I went in October and there were lots. The flower market is open all year round so you can see other flowers there.
