Sun Moon Inn: A Modern Contemporary Hotel Near Sun Moon Lake

Located in Nantou County in Central Taiwan, Sun Moon Lake (日月潭) is one of the best excursions from Taichung (台中). There are many direct buses from Taichung, and it only takes 90 minutes to reach Sun Moon Lake.

While I was there, I stayed at a few places to see how the accommodations are in Central Taiwan.

And without a doubt, Sun Moon Inn is the best Sun Moon Lake accommodation for solo travellers. The small boutique hotel is quaint and designed well. Plus, the staff at the hotel made my entire stay one of the best experiences I’ve had in Taiwan.

Keep reading, and I will tell you all about why you should stay at this Sun Moon Lake hotel.

My Sun Moon Inn review is opinions of my own, and I did not receive any compensation of any kind. I only want to share what I love.

Before you visit Sun Moon Lake

Before you go to Sun Moon Lake, take a look at my post on all my best tips for travelling to Taiwan. I included a lot of information, including getting a Taiwan local SIM card, transportation around the country and more.

And I also have a full post on spending 2 days in Sun Moon Lake. You can do everything around the lake in just 48 hours and while staying at Sun Moon Inn.

Sun Moon Inn Location

For anyone who is staying overnight in Sun Moon Lake, the best area is to stay on the north side of the lake near Shuishe Visitor Centre. Most of the Sun Moon Lake hotels are in this area.

Sun Moon Inn is no exception. The 3-star hotel is located on the main road, Zhongshan Road, and only a three-minute walk away from the visitor centre.

Even though there are many things to do around the lake, staying on the north side of the lake will allow you to be close to Shuishe Pier where you can take ferry rides, and rent a bicycle for the day.

Also, if you are taking public transportation, the bus terminal is right at Shuishe Visitor Centre.

Plus, this Sun Moon Lake hotel is very close to Maolan Mountain Trail, where you can do an easy hike up the mountain to watch the sunrise.

Sun Moon Inn: king guest room

Sun Moon Inn is a small boutique hotel with eight rooms in a four-story house. Each suite is different and unique. And each room is designed in minimalist contemporary aesthetics where there are concrete walls and wood laminate floors.

Each room has a comfortable bed, ensuite bathroom, a closet and a flat-screen tv.

Initially, I booked a double room, but I got upgraded to a bigger room – the king room. There was so much space! It felt like I could’ve had a dance party! Ha!

Check out photos for the other rooms at Sun Moon Inn on Agoda,

Other spaces in the king room

With the upgraded room, I have a desk and chair, which was wonderful because I like working at a proper table.

As someone who works on the road, I appreciate having a proper space to work (although most people are probably not working while visiting Sun Moon Lake). Nonetheless, the extra space in the room is very much appreciated.

Private ensuite bathroom

In the king room, the private ensuite bathroom is not your traditional bathroom. It has a vanity area that is part of the bedroom, a shower with a glass door on one side and a toilet with a glass door on the other side.

Sun Moon Inn also provides Cha Tzu Tang travel-size toiletries like liquid soap, shampoo, conditioner and body lotion. It is a green brand from Taiwan, where they use natural herbal and medicinal ingredients. The products are environmentally friendly as well.

Public spaces at Sun Moon Inn

The reception desk and sitting area are on the ground floor, on the front end of the property.

At the back of the ground level, there is a hotel kitchen and a dining room. Guests of the hotel will have breakfast in the dining room on the long communal table overlooking the back garden.

Moreover, there are parking spaces available if you are driving. It is free between 5:00 pm to 11:00 am the next day.

Complimentary breakfast every morning at Sun Moon Inn

While you stay at Sun Moon Inn, a complimentary breakfast is included every morning.

The staff prepares a healthy Taiwanese breakfast with local ingredients (see photo above), including a savoury noodle dish with vegetables and a colourful fruit salad with edible flowers. Not only does it look good, but it also tastes good as well!

The breakfast also includes fruit juice and coffee or tea.

I only stayed one night, so I’m not sure if they serve the same breakfast every day. But if they do, I wouldn’t mind at all!

The staff at Sun Moon Inn

As soon as I booked my stay at Sun Moon Inn on Agoda, the staff contacted me via email to introduce themselves and prepare for my upcoming visit.

We connected via Whatsapp, and the staff was communicative about everything I need to know before arriving at Sun Moon Lake.

From the beginning to the end of my stay, I thought communication and service were exceptional. The staff at Sun Moon Inn made me feel welcomed. They took the time to explain about the hotel, all the attractions, how to get around, etc.

My stay at Sun Moon Lake was one of the best during my trip in Taiwan because of the warm hospitality.

Sun Moon Inn: one of the best hotels near Sun Moon Lake

If I go back to Sun Moon Lake, I will book my stay with Sun Moon Inn. Without a doubt! As a solo traveller, I enjoy staying in hotels where I feel welcome and safe. It might not be the most budget option, but you get a lot in return for the price you pay. I consider it to be one of the best hostels near Sun Moon Lake!

I hope you enjoyed my review and will consider staying at this Sun Moon Lake accommodation when you travel to Central Taiwan. Check the current rate and other reviews on Agoda if you are considering staying there.
